China toasts 50MW Fujian

The 50MW Fujian Putian City Flat Bay offshore wind farm has started operating in China’s Taiwan Strait.

The facility off Fujian province is one of the largest offshore wind farms in the country and the first one there with 5MW turbines, ABB said.

It comprises XE/DD128 wind turbines from local manufacturer XEMC Windpower. ABB supplied the medium-voltage converters for the turbines.

Two other Fujian Putian City Flat Bay offshore wind farms with 250MW and 600MW are currently in the planning or pre-construction phase, according to the Swiss company.

China had 1015MW of offshore capacity in operation at the end of 2015, the majority of which is tidal range.
